A Brief Explanation of Lebenskunstler3

I first heard this word, Lebenskünstler, on a bus in Greece, on the Isle of Mykonos. Seated next to me, was a Bavarian named, “would you believe, Kenneth?” I think my shock to his name was less than he expected, but we carried on our conversation. Kenneth was on his way to one of Mykonos’ many gay bars. I was off to the Scandinavian Bar which had been the scene of some serious advances in the concept of X rated body shots, an idea again born in the mind of Pip (see Ios) yet carried way too far by the likes of myself. Kenneth inquired of my travels and I lapsed into my stories of escapades on the road, and my love for it. “Ah, you are a Lebenskünstler,” Kenneth commented after several minutes of my narrations. I replied that I was somewhat unfamiliar with that term, or German, for that matter. The closest translation that Kenneth could give me was, “Life Artist.”

Now I can’t claim that I fully understand the meaning but I like the idea of such a concept nevertheless. More than any other term I’ve heard, is a word that I’d like to think encapsulates some of what my trips are to me. That is part of my purpose for recording this next trip, to create through my travel, be it the writing that I produce or what I might record of film, a collection of artwork representing The Road.

I decided for this next trip I would set up a new email account. Hotmail was far too small, compared to Yahoo, so I decided to switch over, as my old address is overflowing (I never through anything out, electronic of paper, hence my messy rooms). I don’t exactly have a uncommon name (try a search in Google, you’ll see what I mean), so I often have trouble in finding an account name. It was also time to hang up the Naked Bob name, as it no longer applies to me, and so I decided on Lebenskunstler, which turned out to be less common. Now, I know I haven’t spelled it quite right but I felt it necessary to Americanize it for simplicity’s sake.

So, that’s the story on the hard to remember email, and website name, I hope it’s been worth reading.
