Actual Itinerary
California (6 weeks). I started in San Francisco and spent 3 weeks there catching up with Loren before the both of us flew down to LA. I spent a few weeks in LA watching the end of the baseball season and catching up with Big Bob, my cousin and his family. After the Red Sox won the World Series, I decided to run back up to San Francisco for the weekend which was Halloween. After wrapping up the best week of my Life, I headed back down to LA and caught a flight to Fiji.
Fiji (2 months). Well, I ended up having a longer stopover in Fiji than I'd originally thought but that wasn't much of a cause for concern. I did find a beach to pitch my tent and I did get a rather nice suntan.
Tasmania (2 months). This was the first really unexpected change to my trip. In Fiji, I met Katie Williams who convinced me that I'd be better off doing Tasmania during January as by April the weather'd be lousy. I took her advice and arrived Christmas Day in Hobart. I had an amazing time in Tas and was tearful when I finally left.
New Zealand (3.5 months). I made it to all 3 islands in New Zealand, I went hiking on both the North and South Islands and I saw a Kea. I enjoyed my time in NZ, though I didn't love it the way that some places have grabbed me. However, I saw almost everything I wanted to in NZ plus I got to see George Clinton in his first ever NZ appearance.
Mainland Australia (10 months). I bought Vacilando about 2 weeks after arriving and then spent the next 9.5 months driving around OZ. I started in Melbourne and made my way up the East coast, finally reaching Airlie Beach, stopping in Agnes Water along the way for 3.5 months. From Airlie, we headed West to Mt. Isa and then Alice Springs, before turning South towards Adelaide. Finally completed the loop by finishing where I'd started in Melbourne. It was a hell of a 10 months.
Singapore (5 days). My Gateway into Asia. I spent five days resting after the final hectic few days in Australia. Five days was enough, as I'd had my fill of cities and felt the desire to find somewhere less crowded.
